  • Saying hi and a bit more

First a big hi to Lazypup and thanks for letting me know about the site.

Second... I have a questions about water to my fridge.. right now it's hook up with a think I think it called a saddle tap??? it punctures the water line to feed water to the ice maker etc?. We have had two of these fail in the past some odd years so when I put in the new sink I want to do it differently.. what are my options?

There are a couple rather simple methods to make a permanent tap.

You could install a TEE and an angle stop valve with a compression outlet sized to match the line diameter for your icemaker line.

A 5/8" compression input will fit directly on a 1/2" copper pipe.

You could also get a "Side outlet angle stop valve".

The side outlet valve has the regular compression tap on the top of the valve with a second compression port on the side. (You can find them in all hardware stores with the regular angle stop and line stop valves for sinks and toilets.)

You could then replace the regular angle stop to your cold water faucett using one outlet to supply the faucett and the second outlet to supply the ice maker.

The only drawback here is that the sink requires a 3/8" compression outlet for the supply tube and many ice maker lines are only a 1/4". In that case you would need separate angle stops, but if both your sink and ice maker use a 3/8" line the side outlet valve will work fine.

You can also use a side outlet angle stop on the Hot water line to make a tap for a dishwasher.
