  • Shower stall leak

I've tried every type of sealant known to man - almost on a glass sliding door frame. It still leaks. The tub is tilted slighted so water pools in that corner and I think seeps out. I have used silicone, etc etc. Any ideas. I even took the whole glass and frame off the tub one time and puttied the air space under the metal plate that sets on the tub...to no avail, still leaks.

    Thank you.

have you tried a double layer of two sided rug tape? Press it in place, remove the backer and put down another layer. now pull off the backer and press your frame into that. the surfaces MUST be dry.

Most of those sliding glass shower frames are constructed of extruded aluminum and they look exactly alike on the inside and outside face, however most of them have small weep holes drilled on one side, which is intended to be installed on the inside. The idea is that any water that gets caught in the track can then drain out the weep holes and back into the tub. The holes are quite small and sometimes go unnoticed during installation. If that is the case, and if the track were to be installed inside out, then any water that collects in the track would then leak out the front of the tub onto the floor.

Examine the track carefully to see if it has weep holes. If so, make sure the weep holes are on the inside of the track where the water would drain back into the tub. Make sure the holes are open and not fauled with soap scum.

If your weep holes happen to be on the outside of the track the permanent solution would be to remove the track and turn it around, but a simpler solution would be to fill the weep holes with a good silicone "Tube & Tile" caulking material, then drill new weep holes on the inside of the tub. aA couple 1/8" holes through the sidewall of the track, slightly above the base of the track should be sufficient. Make sure the weep holes go through the track wall on the inside of the tub and also through the center divider in the track.
