  • Dishwasher Installation Separate From Sink

I have to put a DW approximately 6 feet away from the sink. It would be on another wall due to the cabinet arrangement. I just needed to know if it was possible to place the DW that far away from the sink and still be able to run a separate drain line and water line just to the DW. There is piping directly underneath in the basement. I will have to build a cabinet around it. Is this still feasible.

    Thanks Everyone!!

Running the water supply line would be very easy. Simply locate a hot water line you can tap into.

Running the drain line is a bit more difficult. Dishwashers are required to be discharged into an indirect waste receptor. They may not be connected directly to the drain lines. Normally a dishwasher is run into the dishwasher inlet port on a disposal or to an air gap on the countertop and back to a Wye input on the sink tailpiece. in this instance you will need to construct a standpipe similar to those used for washing machines. The biggest problem you will encounter here is how to get adequate venting.

If your jurisdiction is under the International residential code you will be able to use an air inlet valve (Studor vent.

If you are under the Uniform Plumbing code you will need to either run a vent up through the roof or install an "island vent."
