  • Flushing Problem

I replaced a shower with a toilet. Unfortunately, the shower only had a 2" PVC drain coming out of my concrete slab. The toilet will not flush properly. It seems to back up and then drain out slowly. I can us a plunger and get it to flush. Is there any way to get the toilet to flush without having to tear into the slab to find a 3" drain?

Thanks for any help you can give.

I am not a licensed plumber, so I am not qualified to tell you how many codes this violates. But I can say, it’s probably not a good idea to push 3 inches of stuff into a 2 inch opening. Your toilet may be trying to tell you something.

The flow dynamics of toilets (including venting requirements through the stack) are not designed for 2” pipe. I do not know of any work around, but then again, I'm just a painter.

    Sorry
