  • caonnecting washer tub to pipe

    recently i had a leak in my wall and when i pulled the tub off i took the pipe with it its a grey plastic pipe and its supposed to go in a nut with a little small round thing, now i put it together i cant seem to get the hose to stay in the nut and it still leaks the picture is the old pipe where it shows that i broke it. am i supposed to use some type of glue and how do u keep the white thing in. thank you erica

    from the looks of the pic - though it's kinda
    hard to say for sure but ....

    it looks like a compression fitting.

    if so -- the way to make it work is to head to your
    local hardware store with the nut. if you have the piece
    of "white" pipe that came out - you may notice a little
    brass ring ("little round thing, some rings are plastic)
    on the end of it that was left in the nut.

    the way it works is this --you put the nut on the pipe
    first, the ring next on the pipe, the pipe goes into the
    fitting in the pipe from the wall, slide the ring and nut
    down to engage the threads and tighten. the brass ring
    is the key to compression fittings.

    the reason to take the nut to the HW store is get the correct size ring
    for it.
