I just got a Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher. My house has never had one so I need to start from scratch. I haven't decided if I am going to take out the cabinets next to the sink of if I will extend and build a new counter. Anyways, I am only 21 and just bought the house. I have never done any work like this before so I was wondering if anyone had a complete tutorial of dishwasher install including the frame and counter too? Thanks

Congratulations on your new house, that's great! It's not too tough a job but there's quite alot to know. First you'll need to have a dedicated 20 amp circuit installed for power with a receptacle mounted behind the dishwasher. If you have a garbage disposal and it's on it's own dedicated circuit then you could tap power from this for the dishwasher. Then you'll want a flexible stainless steel braided hose that connects between the dishwasher and the water supply line under the sink. They come in varied lengths so good to know the washers locations first.
You'll also want to install a double ported isolation valve on your hot water supply line under the sink. One port will supply the sink faucet and the other the dishwasher. You'll also need to install an airgap on the top deck of your sink. This is normally installed in an extra hole that's already on the sink deck, though there are areas that code doesn't require an airgap and in that case the drain hose should be run up high along the bottom of the countertop. Here's a link showing one:

If you have a garbage disposer then there is a knockout port on the side of it that the dishwashers drain line can attach to, or you can buy a dishwasher tailpiece to install in the sinks drain line up above the P trap. Here's a link showing one:

They'll be a 7/8" piece of hose that connects between one side of the airgap and the sinks drain or GD and it should be installed on a gentle downward slope without any loops down below the entry point. Your manual for your new dishwasher should also have installation instructions included.
Below are 3 links that should give you lots of details, as for the cabinet, would be better if you could post a picture of the cabinet you're wanting to replace, but you'll need to measure the width of the dishwasher and see if it'll fit between the front frame of the cabinet, if not then you'll maybe need to remove some wood to make it fit and then you'll have to decide if that's a good thing to do or not depending on the cabinet face, can't really tell without seeing it first

Also you'll want to install some flooring underneath the dishwasher that's of the same hieght as the existing kitchen floor, this will enable you to slide the washer in and out with no problems.
This should get you started for now. I'm sure Lazy Pup will be along soon to give you a few more tips and fill in anything I left out.Last edited by kactuskid; 05-12-2006, 11:50 PM.
