Tapioca.....

Was helping the family refloor the laundry room and the gas water heater was moved to the outside. I planned to flush it and bring it back in when I noticed some tapioca type slick pour out of the heater when I tipped it for extra draining. What is that stuff? Never saw it in a tank before.

Tapioca....

Would that protect the bottom from pitting from the water being heated? The water as it was flushed out was very clear, by the way.
