    Hot water pump location?

When we built our new house, one of the features we requested was circulated hot water, so we didn't have to wait so long for hot water in the far bathroom.

It takes far too long to get hot water now, so I think the plumber failed to install one, despite being under contract to do so. Before I jump on him for not complying with the contract, I'd like to know where the pump would normally be located in relation to the water heater. There is nothing near the pump, nor at any of the faucet locations.

I have attached an illustration that has a photo of a typical recirculation pump and both the common and optional location of mounting the pump at the water heater.

Thank you!...that's about where I would have expected them to be.
