  • sewer gas smell in bathroom

we built a new house and we have a sewer gas smell in the upstairs bathroom. seems to be more noticeable in cold weather. the contractor is quite willing to work on this, but we are having trouble finding the source. I thought it was the shower drain, but now I suspect a downdraft through the bathroom fan. Anyone know how to find the source of the problem? And then, what's the fix?

    thanks

    dj,

Welcome to the forum. I saw both your posts... yes, it is very easy for the odour to come back in through your exhaust fan if the sewer vent pipe is too close to the fan exhaust. You can probably more easily relocated the fan exhaust then the sewer pipe vent. Or another option is to simply extend the sewer vent higher to see if that helps.

    Good luck, Jim
