replacing one piece tub shower?

I need to replace my one piece tub shower.
The one I have in there now is 58 1/4" wide.
All the new ones I have looked at say's they are 59 7/8".
All the ones I have seen have been up high on display or in catalogs so I have not been able to measure a new one myself.

Is 59 7/8" standard and even through I'm measuring my old one at 58 1/4" wide do you think it is a standard size?

The one that is in there now maybe 12 years old.

Today I'm in a new house installing some appliances.
I go to take a look in there bathroom and they have a one piece tub shower.
It is 58 1/2 inches wide.
Now that one is only 1/4 more then my old one.

So what's the deal here?
Is there any standard size?

i would measure one in a house here for you but its winter so we are kinda slow and i wont be able to for awhile (im an electrician in illinois)

the tub/shower i measured on friday was also 58 1/4

I replaced my tub this weekend.
Once I got the old tub out and the sheet rock removed I did have 60" between the studs.

The new tub fit in just fine.
