replacing metal pipes with plastic?

My bathroom sink has recently started leaking at one of the connection joints, it can probably be fixed with just a new washer but I noticed the pipes have corroded quite a bit and will need to be changed in the near future. I'm curious if it's easy to replace metal pipes with plastic ones? Will there be any issues with connecting the new plastic pipes to the old metal ones that go inside the wall?

why go with plastic? are you afraid of sweat soldering? if your existing plumbing is galvanized, for the sake of argument I'd go with pex and shark bite fittings.

Plastic pipes are less vulnerable to frost because plastic is a poor conductor of heat compared to metal (which means that, unlike metal, it provides a certain amount of insulation), and because it has greater elasticity. This means that plastic pipes are not only less likely to freeze than metal ones, but also that in the event of their doing so they are much less likely to burst.

the use of plastic is personal preference but check with your building department. they may require something in the line of a "code question."
