toilet replacement

First time home owner becomes first time plumber. Any hints on how to replace an old toilet with a new? Just looking for some ideas on how to make the change smooth and with as little incidents as possible. Thanks for any help

The unit we just got from Menard's came with all the parts already in the tank. It also had a wax ring as a part of the kit. Shut off the water to the tank. Get a a wet/dry vac and suck out as much water from the tank and bowl as you can. I've always found it easier to remove the tank first. Get that out of the way, then remove the bowl. If those bolts/nuts are seized at the bottom, use a cutoff wheel on a Dremel. Lift the bowl off and carry out without tipping as there may be some left in there. Clean off the old wax and discard along with bolts. (By the way....rubber gloves. discard them with the wax.) Replace that tube from the valve at the wall or floor with the stainless flex of approrpriate length, too. Makes life wayy easy! Have fun, and happy flushing!
