  • Fire Rating on Lathe and Plaster

I recently purchased an old building that is in need of repair. I will be a regular participant in these forums as i have many questions and perhaps a little advice. I am wondering if there is a specific fire rating for lathe and plaster construction.

It sounds like it's at least 30 min per the following building codes for licensing in Waterloo:

A 30 minute fire separation (fire separation means a construction assembly that acts as a barrier against the spread of fire.) is required between all floor areas.

Examples of construction that would achieve this separation are:

    lathe and plaster construction,

    drywall and,

fire rated ceiling tiles and track system

All wall and ceiling finishes have limitations on the flame spread rating (flame spread rating refers to the extend of flame-spread on the surface of material).

Examples of construction that would achieve this flame spread rating are:

    lathe and plaster and,

    drywall.

You should check what your local fire codes say concerning this, places vary and they'll be the ulitimate last word anyhow.

    And welcome
