  • painting interior brick to look chalky/ warm

    hi!!!!!

i have 900 sq feet of old brick that is uneven. i'd like it to end up with a chalky/ velvet like wash of warm brick like color to make it look even and clean. someone suggested acrylic paint mixed with something that sounded like "cyme".
anyone have any ideas? suggestions? i assume i need a clear acrylic masonry sealer first...

    thanks so much!!!

You can easily paint the bricks with an interior latex. As far as a "chalky" look, you might try thinning the paint with water. (about 50-50 to start, mabey more) This will allow it to soak deeper into the surface and give it a weathered look. The original color of the bricks will also show thru.
** Be warned, you probably will not achieve a uniform color. Obviously the brick's porosity will make a big difference, and each brick will be different.
If there is a spot you can test this on first- please do so, paint is horribly difficult to remove from brick or masonry.
