Should I paint first or install new carpeting first?
It seems that it would be safer to paint first so paint doesn't get on the new carpet.
But, one carpet salesman told me to get my carpet installed first, then paint after the new carpet is in. He said when the old carpet is removed, all the dust, etc. will get on the walls. Was he just trying to meet his sales quotas for the month or was that good advice?

There is a simple solution..Tear the old carpet and pad out first, then paint, and finish with installing the carpet.

When I did this, I used the old carpeting and pad as my drop cloth. Made it easier on the feet and knees. Then rolled the old carpet right up. One note. I removed the tack strips first becuase I knew I was laying down laminate flooring and didnt want to mess up the new paint removing the strips. If you are laying new carpeting leave the tack strips in place. []
