  • Compound questions...

I removed a door. and planning to paint the doorframe.
I am not putting the door back.
Can i fill up the grooves where the door hinges go with compound? We are talking like half a cm of compound to even it.
    Will it hold?
Do i need to do it small layer by small layer? Takes 24 hours to dry!
Or do i have no choice but to fill up that slot with something else?

Are you going to paint it or stain it? Reason for my question is your choice of filler material. If it's a stain, get something that will accept a stain. Durham's water putty is a good choice. It's a powder that can be mixed with the stain and applied or just mixed with water applied and let dry. A product called plastic wood doesn't take to staining too well.

OK in your browser go check for DURHAM'S WATER PUTTY Their site is very informative and commends their product. I find it so good I used the stuff to repair dings on a shuffleboard that I refinished.
