sharp corners

My bedroom has a closet, the framing for which juts out into the room. One of the corners of that closet has been hit with something, around knee level, that chipped off what looked like joint compound covering the corner bead which made the 90* transition appear seamless.

How would I go about replacing that compound and making the corner sharp again?

Is it as simple as dragging a loaded compound knife to the edge?
Should I temporarily tape the right side of the corner while compounding the left?

Corner Repair

Just coat the corner sufficiently with compound and sand level with a sanding block. Prime and paint.

Just a quick FYI- for such a small repair, unless you already have some on hand, you probably won't bother buying actual joint compound. You can use spackling, but do not use the "light" or quick dry type. It won't stick to the corner bead.
