Bricks and painting

I have a great looking brick wall on the inside of my house. Unfortuantely, someone decided (probably years ago) to paint it a hideous gray color. Does anybody know of any way to remove at least some of the paint so I can restore the old brick color?

I would like to know how to get paint off bricks too--especially exterior paint off an outside brick facade. I saw an otherwise really nice house the other day with a brick facade painted a hideous color. Aside from the color, I don't know how you'd keep mortar in good shape with all the paint all over it-- Thanks.
