Vinyl Wallpaper design bleeding thru

My walls have that vinyl paper over the drywall and I want to paint my kitchen. The one thing I noticed when I did my girls bath is that the design looks like it is showing it's details. I primed the walls twice and then painted with a good quality paint. Is there something I need to do otherwise other than redrywalling my whole kitchen?

Welcome back!

I would try a stain blocking primer. Brand names like Kilz, Binz and others. Ask your local paint store what they carry.

Thank You for replying, I am not sure if I asked the question right but I will try one of those out, I was talking to my wife and she stated that the design shows thru and she was wondering if a primer blocker will cover these and show basically a flat wall sealed up and only showing the new paint.

Have you tried to remove the paper first? I know it is a pain, but it is the best way to ensure that nothing shows through. It is also the best way to ensure that the paper won't start to peel off in years to come.

Otherwise it seems to me that a primer blocker would help.If you can't see the design after applying the primer, then you won't be able to see it after applying the paint.

If your problem is that the raised pattern of the wallpaper is showing through (not color bleeding through) then I would say your only option is removing the paper. Applying compound over the top of wallpaper is almost always a big mistake.

As Troy said it may be a tough job but I think it is the only way to get a really nice result.

I was gonna paint over MY wallpaper in the kitchen, ( you may not want to do this) however if you are having that much of a problem covering wallpaper, have you thought about getting a TAME wallpaper to go over existing paper, because with my experience with dealing with painting over paper, it will never look right.I am in the process now of covering old wallpaper with new , it is looking good.I got a paper that looks like it is painted. GOOD LUCK!
