Hiding an old window

Hello everyone, new person here

This is what I am trying to do. I have an old house made of concrete block. I want to hide a window. So far I have thought maybe just covering it with wood sheeting both out and in. What I want to know is how or what kind of covering I can use to make the exterior wood surface blend with the surrounding concrete. Would perhaps something like a coating of ready mix work for that?

You could always stucco the area to blend as best as possible to the block.
You would have to build a wall, attach sheathing, vapor barrier material, wire mesh then the stucco scratch coats and final coats.

Thanks for the reply push. Hmm sounds pricey. Is there a quicker / dirty way to do it. I am on a pension here

since you mention sheathing would a sheet of texture 111 painted a matching grey break you?

Well I guess the sheeting I would use is called particle board. The stuff they use when they redo a a roof or floor. Sorry I am not a carpenter so I am not too up on wood names..haha. What is this 111 stuff, just a sort of heavy paint?

No, texture 111 is a plywood with a rough surface akin to rough barnboard but it comes in a 4X8 foot sheet. Particle board can be MDF which is medium dense fiber, particleboard or chip board is called OSB or oriented strand board. Regular particle board won't stand up to weather. If ANY moisture attacks it it will swell up and disintegrate to nothing.

Oh ok. I will check int that at Lowes then..thanks. By the way what is that brownish sheeting called. It looks sort of spongy, very soft. Comes in 4 x 8 sheets too, and sells cheap. I am sure it is interior use only though. There was a few sheets of it here when I moved in, but did not see it used anywhere.

Your looking for T 1 -11 it comes in 8" and 12" (Lowe's only stock 8") profiles. It will cost about $20 for a 4x8 sheet.

that brownish stuff if that's what you are referring to is called MASONITE. another type of wallboard is called HOMOSOTE. It's basically a pressed gray cardboard product. I used to use the stuff for making model train boards.

I see..would that be useful to use for an interior divider wall, then maybe drywall over it ?
