  • I can't hang anything!!!

My house is old (93 years) and has the dreaded plaster/lath walls. Every darn time I try to hang something on a wall -- ANY wall -- I can go in about 1/2" and then the nail just 'bounces' against what I assume is the lath. I cannot, no matter how much pressure I apply, break through it. I also "love" the sound of the plaster falling behind the wall...really makes my day. Any ideas on how to hang a picture without destroying the house and rebuilding?

yeah. don't use a nail! Use a small sheetrock screw and go in at anangle.

Or cut the head off one of your nails and use it in a drill motor like a drill bit to create a pathway for your nail.

I learned this trick years and years ago while trying to drive finish nails into hardwood trim like crown and base moldings. Today I'd use an air nailer, of course.
