I want to put up some new trim around windows and doors on the inside of my home. I was thinking I would just use 2 normal pieces cut at 90° on both ends for the sides. For the top I want to use a backer board attached to the wall, crown molding and then a header (top). I hope you know the style I am thinking of. First, I am going to stain the wood fairly dark. What type of wood do you recommend? I know oak is harder and more expensive than pine. For the backer and header what type of wood should I use...stain grade plywood or just a 1X6 or 1X4 stain grade?
What kind of wood?
