  • Tips and Recommendations for Pool Deck Resurfacing

    Hello everyone.

I'm considering resurfacing my pool deck, and I’m looking for advice on the best options available. My deck is currently made of concrete, and it’s showing signs of wear and tear, including cracks and discoloration. I’ve heard about various resurfacing methods, like spray-on coatings, stamped concrete, and epoxy finishes, but I’m unsure which one would be most durable and aesthetically pleasing for a poolside environment.

What have been your experiences with pool deck resurfacing? Are there specific materials or techniques you'd recommend for long-lasting results?

Any advice on cost, maintenance, or installation would be appreciated!

Hi! I don’t have direct experience with pool deck resurfacing, but from what I understand, each option has its own pros and cons depending on the look you want and the climate. Spray-on coatings are known for being slip-resistant and cooler underfoot, which is great around pools. Stamped concrete offers a more decorative finish and can mimic natural stone or tile. Epoxy finishes are durable but might not be ideal in full sun unless they're rated for outdoor use, and they can get slippery when wet.

For pool deck resurfacing, spray-on acrylic coatings are a popular option, especially for concrete surfaces that are starting to show wear. They tend to be slip-resistant and cooler underfoot, which is ideal around pools. These coatings can also be customized in terms of color and texture for a more modern look.

Stamped concrete is another good option for those looking for something more decorative. It can mimic the appearance of natural stone or tile, but it’s important to include a non-slip additive in the sealer to prevent it from becoming slippery when wet. Maintenance usually involves resealing every few years to keep it looking fresh.

Epoxy finishes offer durability but are generally better suited for shaded or indoor areas. In full sun, they can yellow over time and become slick when wet unless a grip additive is used. For pool decks, polyurea or polyaspartic coatings are sometimes preferred over standard epoxy because they’re more UV stable and slip-resistant.

Cost-wise, spray coatings are typically mid-range, with stamped concrete on the higher end due to the labor involved. Maintenance and local climate are also key factors to consider when choosing a solution.
