  • How to seal gap

I have a gap between my cement deck and my block foundation.
I never had water in the basement but the block was wet once after a three day rainstorm.

When the house was new it was caulked but the area around the house (deck and grass) has dropped a couple inches in 20 years.

I'm new so I can not post a pic (pretty dumb for a home improvement forum) but the gap is about an inch.

    Thanks

a rubberized sealant in a caulking tube may be the way to go. it flows into the crack and cures but remains flexible. products made by D.A.P. could be one of them. Rhinohide is another rubberized sealant.

Check the depth of the crack. You don't want to fill up a deep hole with calk. Use Poly Foam Calk Saver available at most hardware stores to stuff the crack with before you calk. I used Sika self-levelling concrete crack filler on my cellar floor. It's available in big tubes in the concrete products of big box stores.
