wheres this water coming from

We live in Lethbridge Alberta, we have brought a 28yo house here, which sits on four levels. 1=basement, 2=half below half above ground, 3+4 above ground. We are brits who have moved to Canada recently, so know nobody. Here is the problem, on level 2 the wife found that the carpet was wet through around the exterior wall area. Loss adjuster said it must be from exterior crack then left it to us. All pipes are dry, dug up outside around where water is in house, cant fnd no cracks in wall.

solid concrete foundation? quite possible that the outside walls (concrete) weren't "keyed" to the floor or footing below. usually where walls are constructed on concrete below a piece of wood is placed in the pour forming a "key" for whatever is poured above it. then the key is removed before the final cure and pour. the wall above it is therefore keyed into the concrete below it. but there always is an area that water can be wicked through the joint. an asphalt based wall sealer is applied to the exterior foundation before the back fill of dirt. if they (contractors) missed any place along the wall your gonna get water. I would suggest a sealer applied over a concrete bonding agent that grips the concrete from the inside as excavation would be needed outside.
