  • Leaking Metal Roof

we have discovered a leak in our metal roof on the house. the roof is held on by bolts with thick washers to prevent leaking. one of the bolts has come loose and it is the cause of the leak. the problem is that i was told never to walk on the roof as it will damage it. the bolt in question is about 12 feet out of reach. i cannot seal it from the inside. the bolts were not attached to the trusses, but wooden slats that run between the trusses. the bolt in question was put in close to a knot and has come loose.

    thanks

well, besides being slippery as all get out, about the only way you can get out there is with the help of a ladder with hooks on the end. the fastening area of the metal slats is in the "valley" portion of the roof NOT the tops. the ladder will distribute your weght over an area and the hooks keep you from sliding all over the place. Using a bucket truck is out because you will be too far away from the roof's surface. Call the company that installed the roof and ask them what can be done.
