  • Installing a hand rail

Yesterday I put in new steps off our rear side door. I was wondering what is the height the railing has to be from the top step and also at what angle should the railing be cut at? I think it is 34 inches from each set of stairs and the cut is at 45 degrees on a miter saw. Any help would be highly appreciated.

I suppose if you can get your hands on a building code you'll find a standard height. Bottom line is what you are comfortable with. Just keep the angle the same from top to bottom.
Use a stringer to fasten the brackets to. Fasten the stringer into the studs.

34" is standard from the top step or deck, the same height is required over the entire deck/step area, so depending on the angle of your particular steps that will dictate the angle of step to deck railing angle.
Also remember that the maximum allowable space between the balustrades is 4".
Little about a lot and a lot about a little.
