  • Removing Rust from Concrete Driveway

Any ideas on how to get this done?

Have tried 2 different acids in small areas, but they both etch the concrete and are only 75% effective.

rust is iron oxide or ferric oxide. tri-sodium phosphate is supposed to clean it.

Easy. Use oxyalic acid. You can buy it at a paint store... marketed as "wood bleach." Be careful... you don't need to mix up much... and go "lightweight" (highly diluted) at first, otherwise you'll eat the concrete away. A small toothbrush dipped in the solution will simply "erase" rust from concrete like magic. The bad part is that the treated parts will now stick out because they are cleaner than surrounding concrete. So you might want to pressure wash the whole pad when you are done.

Clean off dirt and debris, wet the area, and apply a Solution of 1 ounce of tri-sodium phosphate and a gallon of hot water. You can also try different rust removers that are available in the market.

          Driveway rust removal

Rust can be caused from the cement rebar underneath the driveway or from ie; Scott's weed/feed (nitrogen) fertilizer stains from the lawn.
Try Goog Off Rust Stain Remover from Lowes or Home Depot.
Strongly suggest you have a man that has a hot water pressure washer unit with a surface cleaner.
Rust is too tough for a homeowner with a small pressure washer unit and no surface cleaner.
The job may have to be repeated and the rust still may not come out all the way so you will need all the ammo you can muster. Hot water and a surface cleaner unit for oil stains and rust stains.
