Is R12 a good insulation value for a garage door?

I am no expert on R values but for what it's worth most door manufacturers will use a 1" Styrofoam board (just the cheap bead board) for insulation. I use this on my garage door and have a heated garage in northern Minnesota, it works fairly well to hold the heat in the winter. I am skeptical of those space blanket looking insulation kits out there.
