  • Identifying a lock/latch

My wife and I bought a 1965 house, and the garage door hardware appears to be original; it's branded Stanley. We have no key, but would like to be able to unlock from the outside.

Searching online and briefly in stores, I can't find any locks which resemble our hardware. Would this be a fairly universal fit, or will I need to take the latch/lock to a store to compare and contrast?

You should be able to take the lock to a locksmith (or have one come out but more expensive) and they will either make a new key or re key the lock to a new key. Shouldn't cost all that much taking it into a locksmith somewhere under $50.
