Yes it will effect the operation, but I don't know if it worth it to replace the gear housing. If you don't know why it cracked it might do it again and you can get a new opener for 150-200 bucks. Just saying..

Garage door opener plastic gear case cover broken

I have a Stanley garage door opener model # ST200AD7"The chain jumped off the sprocket and after taking the motor housing down and opening the case I discovered that the gear case housing was cracked and apart.Would that effect the operation of lifting and lowering?I ask this before ordering a new gear case housing as they are non refundable.Thank you
