I am ordering 2 8X7 Clopay garage doors that I plan on installing myself. The question I have is, I measured the garage doors and openings. The width is perfect, 8 feet. However the height of the old door is only about 6'9". The door looks like it is a stock 4 panel door, is this a normal thing or am I going to need to alter the new door? Thanks

I think you won't run into a problem because the 7' measurement means the door, which sits on tracks, once its closed willl overhang the upper part of the opening a touch. as long as it isn't too much. there's a moderator in here for garage doors. I'll hang back and let him answer it.

It is always best to get a door to fit your opening, because it is asthetically more pleasing to get a door that does not have the raised panel overstacking. Most garage door manufacturers sell a section's in 21" and 18" hieghts. thus 4 21" sections produce a 7' tall door, so simply substituting an 18" panel for the 3rd section up you get a good fit. The main problem with using a taller door is that you loose the headroom needed to get the door open with standard track.
So if you have more than say 18" of headroom you will probably be alright with a 7' tall door, if not special order the 6'9" door and you will probably have less problems installing them.
