How large a door will a 1/3 HP lift,uninsulated?

When installing horizonal tracks is it better to slope a tad toward the stop screws?

1/3 Horsepower Operators

I use Liftmaster Openers.....Under normal circumstances. 1/3 HP should lift up to 10' non-insulated doors. Food for thought on this one....You should make sure that the door can manually operate "great" and correct torsion is in place. If there is any trouble with the door going up or down at all catching, hard to pull up or down, etc...then you should adjust the torsion until the door will stay in place opened 1/2 way and easy to raise and lower with two fingers.. The most important thing in using any operator. Proper installation of door and operator, balanced torsion.

Horizontal track

Horizontal Tracks should be level to allow the door and torsion system to rest; slanting the tracks up or down creates stress on the following: rollers, hinges, cable, torsion system. Depends which variation you use in positioning of the track(s).

a 1/3HP opener should be able to handle most double car doors. If you have to crank up the sensitiviity setting then you would want to reconsider, but you will proabably be fine up to about 250-300lb door.

YOu can run the horizontal tracks uphill an inch or two, but any further than that and you would possibly need a new spring and or drums.

As for stress on the parts, there would be no additional stress by doing so, with the exception of the spring maybe not having enough strength to hold the door above the header, but you shouldn't have to worry about the cables jumping the drums or the opener wearing out the gears prematurely because the wieght of the door is virtually nill in the open postition especially with less than a 1/12 incline.
