Stud-finder problem

I am trying to hang hooks for my bikes from my garage ceiling. My ceiling is drywall and has the textured/rough finish. Because of the texture, I cannot use a stud-finder to locate where to put my hooks. Any ideas?

Try placing a smooth surface over it. Like maybe thin sheet of plastic.
