  • Replacing Railroad Ties

The front sidewalk and stairs leading to our front door are made out of concrete and rail road ties. The rail road ties are rotting and it is time to replace the whole thing. Any suggetions on a do-it-yourself way to replace these stairs and sidewalk?

Have you thought about simple decking? You can use stone as well, although you are getting out of the "do-it-yourself" realm. Decking isn't too hard, and you could leave your existing stairway and just build on top of it.

Well Pat(hehe), I'm not sure what your walkway looks like but you can get Pre-fabricated landscaping stones to replace your railroad ties. You can get them at Home Depot and the like. That would be easier for a do-it-yourselfer. Bricks look nice too. Hope that helps
