  • Lawn Mower Wheel Problem

I Have a Briggs & Stratton Brute Self Propelled Lawn Mower
The back wheels are the high kind 12 inch

The original wheels on it are crap.
Ive mowed 4 times, and one broke.
They have nothing in their manual about how to get parts.
I dont want another of their wheels anyway.
Love the mower in general tho. I prefer not taking it back.

    So I got another wheel
Its a nice wheel. Metal core in the hub & core isnt plastic.
I want to keep this wheel.

    *This is the problem*

It goes on fine, only the bolt
( or whatever it is with the threads-Im female --doing my best here ! )
isnt long enough to screw the nut on. It lacks about 3/4 of an inch

Is there something I can buy to extend this
If so, what would it be called if I went to a hardware store
    Bolt extender ?

    No

Can you remove the stud and install a longer one? Any extension will require some typr of coupler. or if it will fit get a 1 or 2 inch long female bolt that accepts a bolt inside. Doors ussually have similar hardware.

If you really and I mean "really" want these particular wheels you could have a small piece of threaded rod welded onto the existing axles, this would also mean that the welds would need to be ground down to allow the wheel to fit back over, of course you will need a couple of lock nuts that fir the new thread. Almost all mower repair or mechanic shops could do this or a home handyman/woman with a welder and a grinder.
Little about a lot and a lot about a little.
Every day is a learning day.

if you can chuck the wheel in a lathe, turn down the hub a touch so you can thread the nut on the axle. is this a "driven" wheel? or does it just spin on the axle?
