  • Estimating Costs for Painting My Home Interior

    Hi everyone,

I’m planning to refresh the inside of my house and am trying to budget for the project. The walls are in decent condition, but I might need some minor prep work. I’ve been looking online, but prices vary a lot depending on region, paint quality, and labor.

Can anyone share their experience or typical costs? Specifically, I’m curious about how much to paint house interior on average per square foot or per room, including labor and materials.

Any tips on saving money without compromising quality would be appreciated!

Costs can vary quite a bit depending on your location, ceiling height, paint quality, and how much prep work is needed, but a common range for interior painting is around $2–$6 per square foot for walls, labor, and materials combined. On a per-room basis, many homeowners end up paying anywhere from $300–$1,000+ per room, depending on size and complexity.

Minor prep work such as patching nail holes, sanding, and caulking usually doesn't add too much, but extensive repairs can increase the total cost. Higher-end paints also cost more upfront, though they often provide better coverage and durability.

If you're looking to save money without sacrificing quality, consider:
      • Keeping the same or similar wall colors (often requires fewer coats)
      • Handling simple prep work yourself
      • Painting multiple rooms at once to reduce labor costs
      • Choosing a quality mid-range paint rather than the cheapest option

When I was researching estimates, I found that getting quotes from reputable local contractors was the best way to understand real costs in my area. Companies like RDP Pro Paint, LLC can provide a detailed estimate based on your home's condition, square footage, and paint preferences, which is usually much more accurate than online calculators.

Hope that helps, and good luck with your project!
