I have had a new cedar fence installed.. At first, after drying. I was going to prime it with Zinsser primer (oil Base) then paint it with exterior color latex paint.. A neighbor said that I could also use Zinssler Premium Primer 1-2-3 with stain blocker (water base) and then paint with exterior latex color paint. Now, a salesman at the local BB store suggested that I investigate a high quality exterior house paint that has primer in it to cut down work... Any thoughts so I can be ready when the wood has sufficiently dried to paint?? Appreciate any help or ideas.. Thanks

For your new cedar fence, you have a few solid options. Using an oil-based primer like Zinsser followed by exterior latex paint is a reliable choice for excellent adhesion and durability. Alternatively, Zinsser Premium Primer 1-2-3 with stain blocker offers the convenience of a water-based primer that combines priming and sealing in one step, which can save you time. If you prefer simplicity, a high-quality exterior paint with built-in primer can be effective, though it might not match the performance of a dedicated primer and paint. Each approach has its benefits, so choose based on your preference for convenience versus the highest level of protection.
