  • Paint recommendations for garden pots

    Hi all!

Any paint recommendations for garden pots? I’m looking for something durable that can withstand the weather but still looks great.

Hey there! For garden pots, I’d recommend going with outdoor acrylic paint or masonry paint if your pots are terracotta or concrete. Both are durable, weather-resistant, and come in a variety of colors. For extra longevity, seal them with a clear waterproof sealer once the paint is dry. If you’re into something more textured, try a stone-effect spray paint—it looks amazing and holds up pretty well outdoors. Happy painting!

Thanks! Are there other creative finishes, like metallic or chalk paint, that work outdoors?

Yep, metallic and chalk paint can totally work outdoors if you prep them right. Metallic paint is great for adding a sleek, modern vibe or even a cool rustic look, depending on the color. Just make sure to use a good primer underneath and seal it with a clear topcoat so it doesn’t get messed up by rain or sun.

Chalk paint’s awesome too—it gives that soft, vintage matte finish that looks super charming. But since it’s not naturally weatherproof, you’ll definitely want to seal it with something durable, like polyurethane or outdoor varnish.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could also try textured spray paints that mimic stone or have that hammered metal effect. They’re super cool, and with a good sealer, they hold up pretty well outside. Just prep the surface and go for paints meant for outdoor use so it lasts.

Okay, now I’m really tempted to try this! How long do these kinds of finishes usually last before they need a touch-up?

How long the finish lasts really depends on the type of paint, the surface you’re painting, and how much wear and tear it gets. For metallic or chalk paint with a good sealer, you’re probably looking at a couple of years before needing a touch-up, especially if the piece is somewhat sheltered from heavy rain or intense sun.

If it’s something like textured spray paint, it might hold up a bit longer because it’s usually made for outdoor use. Just keep an eye out for fading or chipping, and a quick refresh should bring it back to life. Honestly, once you see how great it looks, doing a touch-up now and then won’t feel like a chore—it’s more like keeping your masterpiece in top shape!

That’s awesome to know, thanks! A couple of years sounds pretty reasonable, and I don’t mind the occasional touch-up if it keeps things looking fresh.
