We're still revisiting some of the basics in owning a home. This week we're talking about maintenance!
Maintenance is the key to keeping your home in its best shape and preserving the value of your home. Below are some tips to help keep your home in tip-top shape!
- Clean and freshen drains. This means everywhere from bathrooms, to kitchens to basements. Any buildup can lead to costly clogs and/or damage.
- Clean and replace furnace and AC filters. You'll want to pay more attention to furnaces in the colder months and the AC in the warmer months, but it's still important to keep an eye on these guys on a regular basis.
- Clean the range hood filter over your stove. It's a huge fire hazard if there are any blockages there.
- Clean your appliances. You may want to do this more or less often depending on how much you use the appliance, but definitely perform regular up keep to maintain the integrity of your appliances.
- Wash and clean the lint screen in your dryer. This is also a fire hazard if the screen is too full.
- Clean any tile and grout in your home. Dirt can build up quickly on these surfaces and the longer you wait to clean them, the harder it will be to get them 100% clean.
- Test any kind of detectors you have in your home. This includes smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and even the pressure gauges on fire extinguishers. If you dont have any of these three items, get them!
