  • new EXTERIOR light suggestions

Those of you following our remodeling nightmare I have to buy (3) lights and i was thinking about flood motion detector light for the far end of the house that borders the woods.

I saw a 500watt halogen motion detector that was rectangular over the typical 2-bulb flood light motion detector.....

Around the back of the house at the new entrance I thought about a flood motion detect but it will also be the patio area so i was wondering what would be better there halogen,a the typical 2 bulb set up or just an regular light that we could switch on or off.

the other is a flood motion detector above the garage that will illuminate that part of the house but i thought about when we drive up we are gonna get a double faceful of flood when we drive the garage....

So what is my question? You guys like those rectangular halogen lights for exterior lighting and security and my thoughts on lighting?
It\'s sometimes better to be lucky than smart.

IMO would use the 500w hal in the back yard with an override switch for play/party and such if you want continual use. The front use the 2 bulb flood with 500w bulbs and adjust them so they don't shine directly into path of travel. Remember you can also mount the lights on the corners of the house and then mount your motion sensor in the area that you want to be set it off (trips motion only if intruder situation). Now you can get tricky by putting more than 1 motion that sets off all lights (yes it can be done w/HEAVY thought) I do electrical and we figured it out one day but now forgot. On the back patio yes a seperate switch with say rope lighting for relax feel while hal lite up yard.

Personally, I favor lights that stay on. However, I once installed a motion detector light which was primarily used to inform of someone entering the property. I rigged it so it would also trigger a bell in the house
