The rigid machines do not come with a nipple chuck. You order each piece
you want to make up the machine you want. The popular Rigid 300 like i have
will thread nipples down to 5-1/2" long. Paul

Yes that is correct and what I would use for short length work.
I haven't checked how short I can thread before I have to use the nipple chuck on my machine but I do know it is quite a bit smaller than 12"

I was just wondering why Lazypup would say the minimum length that could be threaded in the field is 12"

rigid machines make a nipple chuck for less than 12 inch nipples.

Why the 12" minimum length on what can be cut and threaded in the field?

I have frequently done smaller than that length.
