  • Maytag dishwasher recall question

Hi, I bought a like new MDBH945aww (40372860NC) dishwasher and when searching for a manual I found out there was a problem with fire concerning the heating element. I haven't hooked it up yet, just waiting till the old one quits. A Maytag service man said don't worry about about it if it works all right. Would replacing the heating element fix the problem? Thanks.

As far as I'm aware just installing a new heater element is all that is done for the recall. The replacement element is different than the original so don't just order it by model number.

I looked at the element and it comes out differently than an ovens. Is it something I can fix? There is a sealant that I assume keeps it from leaking. Thanks.

Yes. The element is held in place by nuts from underneath.

I have no idea of your abilities but most reasonably handy persons could probably replace a dishwasher's heating element. It isn't an overly difficult job.

There are rubber or cork gaskets that seal the element to the tub. They may or may not come with the replacement element.
