Help! I have a Badger 1 that is leaking where the drain pipe connects to the disposal. It is leaking between the metal flange and the unit. I took the drain pipe off, (nearly killed me) and I see that there is a washer/gasket inside it. I removed the washer and although it looks a little worn, it is not broken. I went to my local Home Depo and Lowe's and neither store had a replacement. Obviously, I am lost without the use of my kitche sink, so my question is do you experts out there think that if I replace the washer that is most likley the problem? I can order the part via the internet but if I wait and it turns out to be something else I will scream. Any thoughts?

While you have the drain disconnected check the drain port on the disposal housing. Clean the recessed area as much as you can before installing the new gasket. Often the metal becomes corroded and pitted real bad. The prefered method is to replace the unit, but that seems a shame if it runs good. You can try filling it with a bit of clear silicone before setting the gasket.
The gasket used in the drain is a simple flat rubber washer. You should be able to find a suitable replacement at a local neighborhood hardware store. If you cant find one exactly the same thickness you might get two thinner gaskets and stick them togehter with a bit of clear silicone.
Also check the flange on the drain fitting. If it is distorted consider replacing it, otherwise, clean it real well and apply a bit of the clear silicone on the flat surface where it meets the gasket. -
