  • Hot/Cold Water Dispenser

In our office we have a hot & cold water dispenser. The name and model is: SUPER model no.: YLR 1-5-D26 (WCD 1000) Serial no.: 20175857. We are still getting hot water but the cold water is now only room temperature. Its not being cooled. Does anyone know why and is it something I can fix myself.
    Thanks in advance!

Typically bottled water coolers have a very small refrigeration system similar to that used in table top refrigerators. Most of them have a small receiver tank immediately below the water bottle with a sealed eutetic plate evaporator built into the tank walls.

While some units do have an electric immersion heater element to create hot water, In most cases hot water is supplied by means of a heat recovery process from the condenser coil.

There should also be a small fan on the condenser. If that fan motor is not working, or if the condenser coils are obstructed by dust and debris refrigerant pressures will be excessively high. The unit will continue to supply hot water, often slightly hotter than normal, but the refrigerant is not adequately condensing to operate the cooling process.

Unplug the unit, then open the service access cover, locate the condenser coil and clean it if necessary. (Usually you can clean the coil with a bottle brush or blow it out with high pressure air.)

The control system is simply a thermostate that turns on both the fan and the compressor. If both the fan and compressor are not running, check the thermostat. If the compressor is running and not the fan, check the fan motor and wiring connections.
