It fills, it hums, it empties. What it won't do,however, is wash. The spray arms don't get water--- it does hum when it should be washing. Ideas?

You can find tips for locating the model and serial number tag on your appliances in the 'Repair Parts' section of my site linked below.

If there is something jammed in the "macerator" blades the motor won't spin. Inline on the motor shaft is a pump body, a macerator blade and directive hardware. In wash the pump spins in one direction to push the washwater up the column to the spray arms. In empty it goes in the other direction to suck out the water.

That makes sense....thanks! I'll see if I can find the macerator and clear it tonight--- my daughter reported a "weird noise" before the thing quit on us, so I bet something is jammed. If there are specs online I'll find them without biohering you good folk again, otherwise I may ask how to get to the macerator. Thanks again!

OK----
I found the macerator. There were some little pieces of plastic in under the plastic cover that looked suspect. (One in fact had a curve that looked like it had been being "eaten" by the spinning blade.) However, after clearing everything out and assuring myself that the spindle that is in the center turns freely both ways, I put it all back together and the spray arms still don't spray. It does sound as though the motor is running, and once again, if I press "cancel" the machine pumps itself out well.
The model number is MDBH950AWB.
I'd appreciate any further ideas....Thanks.

JFYI. You can see exploded part diagrams for that model at the following link and get the service manual for your particular model at the second:

Some dishwashers use a reversing pump motor with two ports on the pump. When the motor runs in the Clockwise mode the water is pumped through the circulating lines to the spray arms. When it runs in reverse or counter-clockwise it pumps the water out.
Check to see if the pump has two lines, and if so, disconnect the circulating line and see if the line is plugged with debris.
If a dishwasher reversing type motor is running ok in one direction, but only humming and not turning in the other direction the problem is a defective start winding in the motor.
