  • Washer trap?

I have a Whirlpool front loading washer Model# LHW0050PQ connected to a standpipe that has an "S" trap.
I've been told that it might be a good idea to drain the lines of water and replace the water in the trap with RV waterline anti-freeze when I'm away from the house for extended periods during the colder months so nothing bursts.(I'm in NY)
This is my first winter in the house (ex-apartment renter)and I'm not sure how to do that with the washer. The washer is a new one and I don't want to mess it up.

I assume I would then do it the same way to put water back when I come home.

    Can someone please advise?

    Thanks for any help,

** when I'm away from the house for extended periods during the colder months so nothing bursts **

Do you turn the heat off in the house during those times? If you do, I would think you should be more concerned about the house plumbing freezing and bursting than just the washer drain (which would only cause flooding - and only minimally so - during use).

No, I wouldn't turn the heat off and yes, I am more concerned with the house plumbing and I would treat(?) those traps with RV waterline anti-freeze after shutting off and draining the water but I wasn't sure about how to go about doing that with the washer while making sure that nothing is damaged.(would the AF screw up any internal parts?)

This isn't something I'm really worried about. I was just wondering how it would be done.

I guess I just have a case of new homeowner's paranoia.[)]

      Thanks,

If you're not going to be turning the heat off (or down extremely low), I doubt you'd need to be concerned about pipes freezing. It would usually only be if you were totally shutting the house down while away.

It would still be a good precaution to turn off the main water supply but no draining or RV antifreeze injection should be needed IMO.
