  • Long distance phone calls

Okay. Here's the thing. The cordless phones start static ing out when I'm in or close to the barn. That's about three hundred feet away. So, I'd like to run an underground line from the house so as to hard wire a phone there and from that point I can use a cordless. (Also won't get hollered at so much about the house phones coming back with a bit of 'minor' grime!) What type cord would I use? Where might I purchase something like that? RS? Bury it maybe a foot or so deep would be okay?

You can get both telephone cable and cat5 telephone cable that is suitable for direct burial.

When burying the cable you should consider frost depth and bury the wire at least 6 inches below mean frost line.

Can I get that at Radio Shack? OR does HD also carry that?

You would probably get the best price and availability at a local Electrical supply house.

Advice for home phone wiring and jacks with information at adding second or third line and reference for wire color codes.

these are great site but especially the last one...anyway....CAT5e works the best, but plese look into what signal loss you'll see after prescribed distancees , you may need to do something else to amplify the phone signal , i don't know....good luck!

Thanks, VDOT. I did check that last one first. That guy did a fine job. Will check the others as well. Thanks again.....
