  • Converting to GFI doesn't work ?

I am replacing the old traditional outlets in my kitchen to GFI's, no problems other than the one under the sink that the garbage disposal plugs in to. This GFI does not work, but if I re-connect the old traditional one that still works (proves that power is still getting there). Anyone know what might cause the GFI to not work and if there is a way around whatever that issue might be?

    gfi tripping

why bother with a gfci for a disposal under the sink? most "hogs" are hard wired anyway on a dedicated circuit. a GFCI receptacle is installed for personnel protection. Any outlet within a six foot radius of a sink should be gfi protected, but a disposal doesn't need it.
