  • New patio outlet...opinions please

I want to install an outlet on an external wall of my mfg. Home that faces the patio. There is an outlet on the interior of the house almost directly opposite where I want the exterior outlet. I know that the added outlet must be a GFI? My question is, would you install the exterior outlet in an old work box with a waterproof cover OR would you install the new outlet in a surface mounted outlet box with a waterproof cover? A neighbor told me that an old work box and cover would let winter cold in whereas a surface box would limit cold air intrusion.... Comments or thoughts before I proceed?

    surface vs internal

the option is yours. if the wall is fully insulated, I would go with the romex pigtail through a drilled hole in the external sheathing and siding. Aesthetically it would be an eyesore having this extra protuberance on the side of your house. an old work box, plastic would be my choice would lie flush with the siding, the only thing sticking out would be the weatherproof plate.
